We are honor to have two Seminars, First Seminar led by Chicago-based Erick Matsunaga Sensei, Explore the
relationship between Japanese and Okinawan karate, with experience in both mainland and Okinawan systems, through various drills. Matsunaga Sensei will offer considerations of how a principle-based approach to training bridges the gap between them, revealing more similarities than differences. Second Seminar, Ardines Santiago Kyoshi from Dai-ishi Shotokan Karate-Do International explores drills of Conditioning and Fortification of traditional Karate.
Matsunaga Sensei
Explore the relationship between Japanese and Okinawan karate in this seminar led by Chicago-based Erik Matsunaga. With experience in both mainland and Okinawan systems, through various drills Matsunaga will offer considerations of how a principle-based approach to training bridges the gap between them, revealing more similarities than differences.
Erik Matsunaga, WMKA 4th dan, has trained in karate since 1989. In 1998, he began his journey in Okinawan karate under the direction of Art Ishii at Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu of Little Tokyo. With a combined 40 years of martial arts experience including folkstyle wrestling, Mudukkwan, Shotokan, Filipino eskrima, and Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu, in 2012 Matsunaga founded Shobu Karatedo on Chicago’s North Side.
