Dear Sensei,

Thank you very much for your continued support of the Nikkei Games Karate Tournament, a non-political, non-organization-specific event held by competitors, for competitors.

The Nikkei Games Karate Committee wants you to be aware of an issue this year due to the venue. Initially, the Nikkei Games budo tournament was to be held in two gyms at Cypress College, one for karate only, and the other to be shared with judo and kendo.

Due to a scheduling conflict, only one gym is now available. As with Nikkei Games budo tournaments held previously at the Long Beach Pyramid, karate, kendo, and judo events will occur simultaneously in one gym; however, the Cypress College gym is smaller. As a result, karate will have fewer rings, and we expect the tournament to run for more hours than in the past.

Adult advanced categories will compete first. Children ages five and under will also compete first; then, we will gradually work our way up in order through the older age groups. The last divisions to be scheduled will be the 16-to-17-year-old advanced categories, followed by the 18-and-older and 40-and-older beginner and intermediate categories..

Note: If a competitor is in a group that is scheduled to compete later in the day and is pre-registered, the competitor may check in at the registration booth later, as well; however, only the first 200 competitors to check in will receive a T-shirt. The deadline to check in is 1:00 pm.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are taking steps to be more efficient and to streamline the competition so that the tournament time is as short as possible.

We’d also like to let you know that four food trucks will be on site from 11 am to 6 pm.

Please forward this information to your competitors so that they may plan accordingly for a longer tournament day.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding,

The Nikkei Games Karate Committee
